La vie de vélo

Adventures in cycling and life

Training – Week of 2/15/2010

Snow. And more snow. And a little quality biking. But mostly just snow.

There’s something to be said for the enormous sense of stillness and peace that the snow brings to the trails and the feeling of freedom you get from breaking new tracks. There’s also something to be said for riding on dry singletrack in warm weather but that ain’t gonna happen for a long time around here! Best to embrace the snow (and the rollers).

Mon – 0.5 hr tempo on rollers
Tues – 0.5 hr tempo on rollers (a.m.) then 1×40 min @ 101% plus 60 minutes tempo on the flats out towards Greely. 2:50 total, 55 miles.
Wed – 0.5 hr tempo on rollers (a.m.) then 80 minutes tempo in the foothills out to Masonville @ 79%, 2:45 total, 52 miles.
Thurs – 0.5 hr tempo on rollers (a.m.) then 3 x 13 min on rollers @ 101,102 an 104%, 1:30 total, ~30 miles.
Fri – 3.5 mile run with Jos
Sat – 4 hours XC Skiing at Happy Jack, WY. Absolutely the best XC skiing trails I’ve ever experienced! Snow fell the whole time. Lots of folks out skiing despite horrible road conditions.

Sun – The snow kept falling so Jos and I strapped on the snowshoes and hiked up Hewlett Gulch. 3 solid hours. We made our own tracks for 1/2 the hike in knee deep powder.

all in all, 7.5 hours with my feet on the pedals, 7.5 hours with my feet in the snow.
