La vie de vélo

Adventures in cycling and life

Training – week of 2/22/2010

This week it was back to hibernation – the temps and road conditions were just not making outdoor riding look too appealing so I got some quality time on the rollers. Then the weekend came which meant lots of skiing of course. Its been a while since I’ve done a good long ride outdoors which should make me nervous if it weren’t for the big fitness gains i’ve been seeing from the threshold work of this past month.

Mon – 1:15 on rollers with 1 hour at 95% average.
Tues – 0:30 tempo on the rollers (a.m.) plus 1:15 on rollers with 1 hr at 95%.
Wed – 0:30 tempo on rollers
Thurs – 0:30 tempo on the rollers (a.m.) plus 2×20 @99% and 1×13 at 108%
Fri – 1×20 @ 95%. We went up to Beaver Creek at 8200 ft. This intensity felt WAY harder and my heart rate was 10 bpm higher for 4% less watts. Since my ‘A’ races are both above 10k ft, i better start getting used to going hard at high altitude!
Sat – 5 hours XC skiing at Beaver Creek
Sun – 5 hours downhill skiing at Beaver Creek (stuck to green & blue runs, after my knee injury at Telluride 2 years ago, there’s just no incentive to push it on the steep moguls anymore).

Finally, some pics from Beaver Creek Nordic ski area:
