La vie de vélo

Adventures in cycling and life

Training week of 3/1/2010

Finally, the chance to pedal in the sunshine! Temps in the 50s meant lots of road miles. The trails are still way too wet to break out the MTB yet.

All told, this week saw about 17 hours of riding, about 300 miles and the first race of the season.

Mon: 1:30 easy ridin out to Bellvue
Tues: 2:30, 40 miles Rist Canyon . New record of 45:25 on Rist climb (325 watts avg). Crashed twice on the way down in some icy stuff… no damage.
Wed: 2:45, 50 miles out to Glade/Masonville/Carter Lake at tempo pace. Felt good.
Thurs: 1 hour easy on singlespeed.
Friday: nada
Sat: Frostbite TT plus 2 hrs, 40 miles at endurance pace
Sun: 6 hrs, 101 miles exploring some backroads to the north. Stove Prairie, Poudre Canyon and Red Feather Lakes were some of the landmarks. It was an endless parade of canyons, mountain views, rock formations, forests and prairies. It was mostly paved but there were a lot of dirt road sections where some fatter tires and lower gears would’ve been nice. Still something satisfying about coming back caked in mud from a “road” ride. Felt great to get out and just ride in some beautiful country – this is what biking is/should be about.
